SIN tax on American Gays

For all my American friends, consdier this advice from Michael Mahler, Editor of the Erie Gay News out of Erie PA.
"...With the upcoming tax season, I urge all those who support the LGBT movement who are members of a same-sex marriage to follow in Gandhi’s example of nonviolent non-cooperation. Do not file your tax return separately when you know that you are married! File a joint return! Claim those exemptions due you! In all things respecting your marriage, assert that you are married, whether local, state, or federal! On all levels or no levels is your marriage valid. ..." - see full article at Gay Media

Now wouldn't it be great if some of you in the USA tried this. Good luck!

Liberal Glen Murray runs from the Camera

Sometimes you just have to watch to understand what is going on. TVO thought it would be good for people to have the candidates in the Toronto Centre provincial by-election debate the issues.

Unfortunately they had to pull the plug when Glen Murray, the Liberal candidate refused to participate. This was puzzling to TVO Journalist Steve Paikin who had this to say about the curiously now quiet Murray...
"We found this particularly ironic since Murray, in his previous life as head of the Canadian Urban Institute, loved appearing on our program, and frequently pitched our producers on coming on to the program to discuss his interests. And when he did come on, (let me say this diplomatically) he almost never stopped talking."

Murray was expected to win Toronto Centre in a cake walk over the NDP.

What was unexpected was the NDP nominating its own star candidate, Cathy Crowe. Crowe must have Murray on the run if he can't take a telvised debate.

The Liberal's biggest advantage at the moment is the lack of media coverage for the race. Too much light might lead to a closer race than they thought possible. Even at that. it may be too late for the Liberals in Toronto Centre.

Adam Giambrone says, "I'm Ready!"

Well it looks like I can get excited about the race for mayor of Toronto.

No not George or Rossi. For me I am hoping Adam Giambrone is announcing his run on Monday!

Jack Layton was ahead of the Pack

“A comprehensive peace process has to bring all the combatants to the table.”

Jack Layton, NDP Leader
Sept. 1, 2006.

The rest of the world has caught up. Histeria ruled the day in 2006. When New Democrats stood against sending more troops, a bigger combat role in Afghanistan in 2006, they did so recoginizing that we would never win with weapons... today

Afghanistan’s president declared Thursday that reaching out to the Taliban’s leaders should be a centerpiece of efforts to end the eight-year-old war there, setting in motion a delicate diplomatic process that will carry great risks for both Afghanistan and the United States … In her remarks to the conference, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton preferred to focus on the less divisive issue of reintegration: luring lower- and mid-level Taliban fighters back into society with offers of jobs, money, and protection from Taliban reprisal … Japan announced it would contribute $50 million to a trust fund to support reintegration. The United States and Britain will also supporting the effort, though the Obama administration must obtain a license from the Treasury Department, since it would involve channeling money to members of the Taliban, a group blacklisted by the United States.

Too bad you were ahead of the pack Jack, now of course, who will remember your call on this...

Phallus In Wonderland

CBC Ideas this evening, looks at the the male attachment to the Penis. Beginning tonight is the first part of Phallus In Wonderland. Part two tomorrow.

"For thousands of years, “phallocentric” myths have celebrated the omnipotence of the penis. The Egyptian god Min was so powerful, he fathered himself. In ancient Rome a boy’s first ejaculation was part of a state holiday. Throughout history, the pursuit of the perfect penis has fuelled the search for cures for impotence. In the eleventh century a recipe involved sparrows and Billy-goats. Today men pop Viagra. IDEAS producer Mary O’Connell takes us inside this male wonderland."
I am sure it will be interesting... Perhaps hard to miss

Its on CBC Radio One, 9pm. If you are outside Canada try Satellite radio or CBC.ca on the web.
