Friends of CBC

Since 1992 governments have left office providing less money for CBC than when they arrived. This from the friends of public broadcasting and a hat tip to David Akin, is a graph showing funding in 2011 dollars for the CBC.

Friends.ca CBC Funding

As you can see the funding has generally been declining from 1990, took a big dip from 1994 to 1997.  From 2000 to today CBC has lost about 100 million in annual funding and down almost 700 million from 1990. The biggest portion of that coming in the years 1994 to 1997.

Potentially more worrisome today are the Harper government's friends opposition to the CBC and even some Conservative ministers. The trend line is down and though I don't fear Harper will eliminate the CBC, he is likely to take this chance to hobble it with a five to ten percent cut, followed by more cuts in the future.

If you want to save the CBC, you better act and be prepared to vote in the next election.  CBC will be hanging on, but showing severe signs of stress come 2015.   Sign this petition from the Friends of Public Broadcasting below or go directly to their site here....
