Make it Seven

Make it Seven

Its just wrong that hockey is a priority in The Southern USA where Florida, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Nashville and Atlanta are all losing money and a Canadian city like Hamilton can't get a team with over 9 million people living within 160 km of the team. Its just so wrong.

Sportsnet.ca has a live blog of the hearing in Phoenix today and while The Star has Kevin McGran twittering live from the courthouse and the Globe and Mail is updating this online article as new events emerge.

One argument you may have heard throughout this case is that fast food franchises can't be relocated. Today's Toronto Sun has an article that looks into the legal precedent behind that argument while Greg Wyshynski's Puck Daddy blog also debunked this analogy last week.

South of the border, USA Today reviews past relocation cases from other professional sports leagues.

Check it out.

Garlic ala Akaamberfox

Nothing beats your own garlic. These bulbs planted tenderly an inch into the soil last fall, survived the Ontario winter and look to do well this year!

If you believe abortion is murder, then act like it is murder.

If you believe abortion is murder, then act like it is murder

The anti-abortion folks as I noted in the post before this one have said the killing of Dr. Tiller was wrong. They have another agenda however. Even as on anti-abortion leader Rev. Patrick Mahoney told associated press, "No one should use this tragedy for political gain.", others are making political hay.

Randall Terry, a way out there anti abortion bully was quoted as saying, "George Tiller was a mass murderer and we cannot stop saying that," Terry said. "He was an evil man — his hands were covered with blood." Terry said he was now concerned that the Obama administration "will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions."

What was the rhetoric he was referring too? Frederick Clarkson reminds us of when Randall Terry led Operation Rescue in the late 1980s, their slogan was, "If you believe abortion is murder, then act like it is murder."

Clarkson at Talk to Action writes about the rhetoric used by the anti-abortion movement and you may be surprised to read what he has to say about America's new moderate Purpose Driven Life proponent, Rick Warren.

O'Rielly and Tiller and a Canuck Attitude

O'Rielly and Tiller and a Canuck Attitude

I read a few blogs. Some of the big ones, but the one that gets me going is Canuck Attitude. Bruce calls it like it is. When I need a good kick, I check out the "No Surrender Dude".

Bruce wrote yesterday about the recent cold blooded murder of a man in his church. Dr. Tiller was one of the few late term abortion doctors in the USA. I know why there are so few. Imagine having this very large target painted on you by a bunch of religious conservative zealots.

That target has been painted by the likes of FOX News and Bill O'Rielly. They have been attacking a Doctor who has been providing a medical procedure entirely in accordance to the law and regulations of his State. The same Doctor was charged and aquitted by the courts.

Dr. Tiller was not a politician but a Doctor providing a legal medical procedure. It was O'Rielly and others of his kind that made Dr. Tiller a public figure. Its the ends justify the means approach that fuels O'Rielly's gas spewing hate. O'Rielly's continually referred to the Doctor as a murderer. He continually fed his listeners and viewers with hate filled speech. He didn't say kill the Doctor, but he sure as heck did create an atmosphere ripe for someone who was a little crazy already, to read between the lines and take action.

Watching the news in the last couple days its evident the pro-life zealots are blaming the victim. They're saying this is a controversial issue. Instead of discussing the cold blooded murder of a fellow human being, they are attempting to hijack the message. Lets talk about abortion and how horrible the murdering doctor was. Lets continue to fuel the masses, its about controling everything...

I will let Canuck Attitude wrap it up for me here...

..."Pro-Life, you have to be kidding. Your hate for your lack of control over the lives others is wearing very thin, the fact that you have to pick on what traditionally has been an easy target, that of control of Women's bodies, exposes you for the impossibly desperate weak souls that you truly are." ...

Hillary Clinton still rocks my boat!

Hillary Clinton still rocks my boat!

In a time when American politicians are still reluctant to support gay (lgbt) rights, Hillary still stands above the crowd. Below is her statement celebrating Gay and Lesbian Pride month in the USA

"Forty years ago this month, the gay rights movement began with the Stonewall riots in New York City, as gays and lesbians demanded an end to the persecution they had long endured. Now, after decades of hard work, the fight has grown into a global movement to achieve a world in which all people live free from violence and fear, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

"In honor of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and on behalf of the State Department, I extend our appreciation to the global LGBT community for its courage and determination during the past 40 years, and I offer our support for the significant work that still lies ahead.

"At the State Department and throughout the Administration, we are grateful for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees in Washington and around the world. They and their families make many sacrifices to serve our nation. Their contributions are vital to our efforts to establish stability, prosperity and peace worldwide.

"Human rights are at the heart of those efforts. Gays and lesbians in many parts of the world live under constant threat of arrest, violence, even torture. The persecution of gays and lesbians is a violation of human rights and an affront to human decency, and it must end.

As Secretary of State, I will advance a comprehensive human rights agenda that includes the elimination of violence and discrimination against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

"Though the road to full equality for LGBT Americans is long, the example set by those fighting for equal rights in the United States gives hope to men and women around the world who yearn for a better future for themselves and their loved ones.
"This June, let us recommit ourselves to achieving a world in which all people can live in safety and freedom, no matter who they are or whom they love."
